The Sacrament of Matrimony is the Sacrament which unites a Christian man and woman in lawful marriage. A Christian man and woman cannot be united in lawful marriage in any other way than by the Sacrament of Matrimony, because Christ raised marriage to the dignity of a Sacrament. The bond of Christian marriage cannot be dissolved by any human power. The effects of the Sacrament of Matrimony are:
To sanctify the love of husband and wife;
To give them grace to bear with each other´s weaknesses;
To enable them to bring up their children in the fear and love of God.
To receive the Sacrament of Matrimony worthily it is necessary to be in the state of grace, and it is necessary also to comply with the laws of the Church. The Church alone has the right to make laws concerning the Sacrament of marriage, though the state also has the right to make laws concerning the civil effects of the marriage contract. Christians should prepare for a holy and happy marriage by receiving the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist; by begging God to grant them a pure intention and to direct their choice; and by seeking the advice of their parents and the blessing of their pastors. For more information, see the Catechism 1601-1679.
Because with the many Venues of the area, we see our Parish as an extension of many Catholic Parishes. Membership in our particular parish is not required for weddings. We work with our Brides and Grooms hoping to promote the Sacred Beauty of this day in all its fullness as God created.
Because each wedding is so unique in its preparation, as a destination Church, for many weddings here at St. Francis de Sales, there are questions such as where is the sacramental paperwork being completed (Here or Local Parish), or availability of contact during the preparation time. Consequently because of the various issue compared to a local parish church we ask for direct contact either through a phone call at 262-248-8524 asking for the Pastor, or an email to guthrier@sfdslg.org, our Pastor’s email address, with your phone number. Initial information because of the number of weddings here at SFDS is through this direct contact even open dates that close quickly at St. Francis. We hope to help make your Sacramental Marriage here at St. Francis a Sacred and Blessed time for our couples in their life.
