Dear St. Francis de Sales Parish School Families,

We are excited to share that our 7th– and 8th-grade students are attending a live performance of Madama Butterfly at the Lyric Opera of Chicago today. This special field trip introduces students to opera by combining music, storytelling, and theatrical performance in a world-class venue. Madama Butterfly is one of the most famous operas, offering a powerful experience that explores themes of culture, history, and the arts.

We are grateful to the Lake Geneva Chapter of the Lyric Opera of Chicago for their generous and ongoing support of our students. Through their year-round fundraising efforts, they are fully covering the costs of our opera trips, making this enriching cultural experience accessible to all participants. Their generosity includes train transportation to Chicago, opera tickets, a dinner stipend for each student, and bus transportation, ensuring no student is left out due to financial constraints. We appreciate their dedication to the arts and the educational growth of our school community.

This experience showcases our school’s ongoing commitment to educating the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—by extending learning beyond the classroom. By engaging students with the arts in meaningful, real-world ways, we promote creativity, curiosity, and a greater appreciation for culture. Opportunities like this help develop well-rounded students who are ready for academic success and a life enriched by faith and learning.

Sheila T. Reiff, Vice Chair and County Board Supervisor for the Walworth County Board, recently presented a Semiquincentennial Flag to St. Francis de Sales Parish School in honor of the United States’ upcoming 250th anniversary on July 4th, 2026. This proclamation recognizes the role schools play in fostering civic understanding and patriotism. The Walworth County Board encourages students, staff, and families to reflect on the nation’s history, participate in meaningful celebrations, and recommit to the values that continue to unite and strengthen our country.

We are excited to announce that our students’ artistic talents will be showcased at the upcoming All-School Art Showcase! This special event will feature student artwork from Catholic Central High School and partner schools, including St. Francis de Sales and Burlington Catholic School. It is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate how art unites people across schools, generations, and creative styles. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the St. Charles campus (Lower Level), 449 Conkey Street in Burlington. Admission is free, and attendees can enjoy light refreshments and baked goods while exploring the exhibit. Families, students, and community members are encouraged to attend and support our talented student artists as they showcase their work in our visual arts program here at St. Francis de Sales Parish School.

Additionally, our students’ creativity will also be showcased at the upcoming All-School Art Showcase on Sunday, April 19th, at Elkhorn Area Middle School. The art show will be open to visitors in the afternoon on April 19th (exact times to be announced). Please contact the school office for the final hours. This special exhibit highlights the talent and hard work of selected arts students, and we encourage everyone to celebrate their achievements here as well.

We thank Marcie Fain, our art teacher, for making it all possible!

Next week marks Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin, a time to refresh our knowledge and readiness for storms, tornadoes, floods, and other weather-related emergencies. This week is a great time for students and families to review safety plans and stay informed about severe weather. Our school will conduct a tornado drill next Thursday, April 16th. Students and staff will practice the steps to stay safe during a tornado. Please remind your children to take it seriously and follow instructions.

Our 4th-grade students will present the Living Stations of the Cross on Friday, April 17th. This prayerful reenactment invites our school community to reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross. As always, families are welcome to join us for this meaningful experience.

St. Francis de Sales Parish School is excited to welcome our grandparents for Grandparents Day on Thursday, May 7th. This tradition is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their school experience with the people who mean so much to them.

The day will begin with a School Mass at 8:45 am, followed by our beautiful May Crowning, in which we especially honor the Blessed Mother. Guests are invited to enjoy a short performance from our students’ production of The Little Mermaid, showcasing their hard work, creativity, and talent. There will also be opportunities to visit our students’ classrooms.

Please save the date and be sure to share this invitation with your child’s grandparents. We want to make sure they feel welcome and included on this special day. Please RSVP to Traci at tracivavrina@sfdslg.org  so we know who will be attending and can plan accordingly. Grandparents play such an important role in our students’ lives, and we are grateful to share this meaningful day with them!

Lastly, we are working to update and refresh our school Athletic Award Boards at St. Francis de Sales Parish School. We want to make sure we have the most accurate and complete information possible. We are asking parents and graduates to help us identify athletic award winners from the 2019-20 school year to the present. If your child, or you, received an athletic award during that time, please share the details with us!

Please send us a message with:

  • Student name
  • Year(s) of award
  • Sport and award received

Thank you for helping us honor our students’ achievements and preserve this important part of our school’s history!
