Dear St. Francis de Sales Parish School Families,
Welcome back! I hope you and your families had a happy Christmas season. As we return to school, we’re excited to reconnect with our students, reestablish routines, and continue the great work we do together every day. The New Year offers new opportunities for learning, growth, and community, and I appreciate your ongoing partnership and support.
Students will be taking the STAR Assessments over the next two weeks. These assessments help us monitor student growth and identify areas where additional support or enrichment may be beneficial. Please support your child in doing their best by encouraging good sleep, a healthy breakfast, and regular attendance during this period. The assessments are brief and low-stress, providing teachers with valuable information to guide instruction.
We will hold a combined Home & School Meeting and School Advisory Committee Meeting on Wednesday, January 14th, at 6:00 pm in the 6th-grade classroom. Babysitting will be available in the school gymnasium during the meeting. One topic of discussion that evening will be the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP). We will also go over the many activities planned for Catholic Schools Week. All parents who attend will earn a Casual Dress Day Dollar for their children. We hope you will join us for this informative evening.
Catholic Schools Week is just three weeks away, and we are eagerly anticipating celebrating all that makes our school community unique. Each year, Catholic Schools Week provides a meaningful chance to showcase the faith, service, academic excellence, and family spirit that are central to St. Francis de Sales Parish School.
During the week, we will participate in prayer, school spirit activities, service projects, and plenty of fun that brings our students and staff together. We will also take time to recognize the many people who make our school possible: our students, families, parish community, faculty and staff, and benefactors.
As we prepare for this celebration, we also encourage you to think of friends, neighbors, or family members who might be considering a Catholic education for their children. Catholic Schools Week is an excellent opportunity for them to visit, experience our community, and see firsthand the joy and sense of belonging our students share each day. Please help us spread the word and invite anyone who may want to learn more about our school.
In the coming weeks, we will share a detailed schedule of events, dress-up days, and any items students might need to bring. For now, please mark your calendars and help us generate excitement at home. We hope this celebration will remind our students that they are part of something truly special: a community rooted in faith and dedicated to helping every child grow in mind, heart, and spirit.
Progress continues on the new classroom additions. As of now, an emergency exit door has been installed in the stairwell between the lower level and the first floor. Eventually, glass exit doors will be added, along with a new permanent stairwell and connecting sidewalks outside. The old exit doors to Curtis Street have now been blocked off and sealed as demolition begins outside the school.
Scherrer Construction has begun demolition to prepare the existing building for the new classrooms. The Teachers’ Workroom (which was the old Principal’s Office back in my day) has been torn down, along with the overhang for the old Curtis Street Doors entrance. Temporary walls and insulation have been installed and will continue to be added as demolition progresses, for safety and to help maintain the school’s temperature.
We will continue to share updates as the project progresses. Thank you for your prayers and support during this exciting time for our school community. We appreciate your patience and ongoing support as we enhance our school with this exciting upgrade. Our students and teachers are to be commended for their flexibility and understanding during all of this.
