Newsletter – October 16, 2025

Dear St. Francis de Sales Parish School Families,

At St. Francis de Sales Parish School, we work each day to build a community rooted in kindness, respect, and the God-given dignity of every person. Lately, we’ve noticed some students making comments or gestures about hurting themselves or others, such as saying “I’ll kill myself” or pretending to shoot a gun. Even when meant as a joke or out of frustration, this kind of language or actions is never appropriate and can be deeply upsetting to others.

Our words have power, and we want our students to understand that their words and actions should reflect the compassion and care we are called to live as followers of Christ.

As mandated reporters, our staff are legally and morally obligated to take any statements about self-harm or harm to others seriously and to respond following legal and Archdiocesan procedures.

We ask that you take a few moments to speak with your child about this important topic, encouraging them to use kind words, to treat others with respect, and to tell a trusted adult if they ever hear something concerning. Together, we can help our children grow in faith, empathy, and love for one another, ensuring our school remains a safe and caring place for all.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers for our school community.

Our St. Francis de Sales Parish School Luminary Walk is this Saturday, October 18th! Please make plans to join us for one of our school’s biggest fundraisers! The evening begins with the 5:15 pm Mass, where our students will participate and help lead the celebration. After Mass, we’ll enjoy the Luminary Walk, a glowing path along Highway 50/Main Street featuring luminaries designed by our students and staff, followed by a community meal catered by Next Door Pub.

There are many ways to get involved in this special event! You can fundraise by creating a personal or family page at https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/sfdswalk25join us for Mass and dinner ($15 per adult, $10 per child, with a $50 family maximum) by purchasing meals online or at the door, or help sponsor the event through business donations or matching gifts by contacting homeandschool@sfdslg.org or calling (262) 248-2778.

An event this size needs many volunteers to help with setup, dinner ticket sales, dinner setup and service, and cleanup. To volunteer, access the following link:

October is a special month for Catholics as we honor Mary, the Mother of Jesus—and our Mother, too! To celebrate, St. Francis de Sales Parish School will gather for a Living Rosary on Monday, October 20th, at 2:30 pm in the school parking lot to show our love and devotion to Mary. In a Living Rosary, each student will represent a bead of the Rosary as we pray together and reflect as one community of faith. As always, parents are warmly invited to join us in prayer!

St. Francis de Sales Parish School students will be permitted to wear Halloween costumes to school on Thursday, October 30th. We have moved our regularly scheduled School Mass to Wednesday, October 29th, to accommodate this.

Please take note of our Halloween costume guidelines. The following guidelines are designed to help you select costumes for your child if they do take part.  These guidelines are in place to make sure everyone has a safe day at school. Students whose costumes are inappropriate will be told to call home for a change of clothes and will not be permitted to wear their costumes that day.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation!

  • All costumes must meet dress code guidelines as specified in the Parent Student Handbook (length of skirts, undergarments showing, bare midriffs, etc.).
  • Makeup or face paint is permitted as long as it isn’t full coverage.
  • Wigs allowed.
  • Hats are allowed with no face covering.
  • No masks – at school and party (yes for the parade, but only if they can walk safely).
  • Students must be able to sit in their regular seats and participate in all school activities while wearing their costumes, i.e., go to the bathroom, tie their shoes, play at recess, and participate in gym, etc. Costumes that prevent them from fully participating in school are not permitted.
  •  No inflatables at either event.
  •  No political costumes..
  •  Costumes that depict extreme violence or gore are not permitted.  This includes the use of fake blood, wounds, etc.
  •  Accessories may not be larger than the elbow to fingertip in length for students.
  •  NO TOY WEAPONS OF ANY SORT ARE ALLOWED AT SCHOOL.
  •  Skateboards, roller blades, scooters, etc., are not appropriate for any costume.

Many classes are planning Halloween activities. Individual classrooms may also have additional requests, such as asking for parent volunteers. Please check with your child’s teacher for further information. Parents having questions about Halloween guidelines should call the school office prior to October 30th.

Treats must be store-bought and free of any allergens: please get in touch with your student’s teacher for more information.

The Halloween Parade at school will take place right after announcements on October 30th. The 8th grade will begin by picking up the 7th grade, then proceed to 4K, followed by 6th grade, and walk through the gym down the hallway. Next, they will visit 3K, Kindergarten, and 1st through 5th grades in order. The parade will exit through the main entrance, continue through the lower parking lot, around the block, and then re-enter the school through the main entrance and return to class. The parade may be shortened depending on the weather. Parents and families are welcome to watch the parade in the lower parking lot.

The Annual Home & School Halloween Party is on Thursday, October 30th, from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Admission is FREE if you bring a non-perishable food item for the Lake Geneva Food Pantry. A parent or guardian must supervise children in attendance.

Christmas Parade Float!

As Halloween wraps up and candy buckets empty out, we’re already gearing up for one of our next events — the Annual Christmas Parade! This year’s float theme “Noah’s Ark” we’re looking for any animal costumes (big or small, cute or cuddly!) that your little ones might have worn for Halloween and grown out of.

Do you have any animal costumes you’d be willing to donate or buy any on clearance while shopping?
They’ll be worn by our students during the parade as we bring Noah’s Ark and friends to life!

Thank you for helping us make the holidays magical!
