Tuesday Newsletter – August 12, 2025

08/13/2025

Office hours will be M-F 7:45-3:45.

Dear St. Francis de Sales Parish School Families,

It must be the start of a new school year: there are so many exciting things happening at St. Francis de Sales Parish School!

  • The new playground equipment should be close to, if not fully, installed by the time school starts. The company is scheduled to start building it this week. The new equipment will be an excellent addition for our students, and we look forward to our students enjoying it!
  • Our teachers will return this Monday for a week of in-service, preparing for the return of our students and a new school year. We are grateful for their dedication and look forward to welcoming them back.
  • Families are reminded of our Ready, Set, Goal Conferences on Thursday, August 21st, an excellent opportunity to meet teachers, share goals, and get ready for the year ahead. If you are out of town or unable to attend, consider scheduling a meeting on another day or doing a virtual conference on Zoom or some other platform.
  • Our Home & School Association will host a Lemonade Stand Fundraiser at Elmer’s Pier on Saturday, August 23rd. Stop by, grab a refreshing drink, and help support our school.
  • We invite everyone to join us for Welcome Back Social: Slides, Scoops, & Smiles! on Sunday, August 24th. We’ll come together for a blessing of the new playground equipment, a meet and greet with students and staff, as well as ice cream treats.
  • Students return to school on Monday, August 25th. We can’t wait to see our hallways and classrooms filled with their energy and smiles once again!

I would like to introduce our new Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Audrey Klein! Audrey earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and her Master’s Degree in Education from Viterbo University. She previously taught at Brookwood School and the School of Saints Faith, Hope, and Charity in Winnetka. Audrey has run her own program, Klein’s Classes, for several years as a reading specialist. She is the author of the book, Skills for Students’ Success: Organization, Study, and Writing Skills. We are excited to welcome such a highly talented and dedicated teacher whose skills and passion will be a great asset to our students and school community.

I would also like to introduce our new 5th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Vicky Froelicher! Vicky earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University and her Master of Arts in Education from Ball State University. She also has a Certificate from Ball State in Gifted and Talented Education. She worked previously at Bright Horizons Family Solutions and has taught and been an administrator at Cambridge Christian Academy in Maryland. Vicky also taught at Redeemer Lutheran in Pittsburgh and Faith Christian in Williams Bay. Most recently, she taught virtually all grade levels for both Ideal4Gifted and Veritas Classical Academy. In addition to 5th grade, Vicky will also be teaching High School Algebra to our 8th grade students who qualify. We are thrilled to welcome another experienced and committed teacher who will bring exceptional expertise and enthusiasm to our classrooms.

We are excited to share that construction will soon be underway on our school addition, which will include four brand-new classrooms to serve our St. Francis de Sales Parish School students and community better!

While the project is underway, the doors on Curtis Street will be fenced off and unavailable for use.

  • Preschool drop-off and pick-up will now occur in the upper parking lot:
    • After arriving in the morning, preschool students will go directly to the new playground equipment and fenced-in area, where preschool teachers and staff will supervise them and walk them into the building with the rest of the students at 8:30 am.
    • Preschool after-school pick-up will also be in the upper parking lot. For preschool students without older siblings, we ask that they be picked up at 3:15 pm. Preschool students with older siblings will be dismissed with them at the regular dismissal time.
  • Before- and After- School Child Care drop-off and pick-up will be through the doors near the 6th grade classroom, which is Door #7. Door #7 is located between the Church and the main school building at the back of the buildings. There is a US Flag and a small patio/garden area by the door. :
    • For student drop-off for Before-School Childcare, parents should use the Parish parking lot and enter through Door #7.
    • For student pickup from After-School Childcare, parents should also use the Parish parking lot and enter through Door # 7.
  • Student drop-off and pick-up for athletic practices will also be through Door #7:
  • Parking on Curtis Street will be prohibited during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up to accommodate the school buses.

We know changes like this can require a little extra patience, and we’re grateful to our parents for your flexibility, understanding, and support. Thank you for working with us through any inconveniences as we make room for an even brighter future for our students!

Finally, beginning next week, the weekly school newsletter will be sent out on Friday afternoons.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making this a wonderful year for our students!

Family Pick 2

The kickoff to the 2025/2026 school year is right around the corner and Home and School is beginning to plan for the exciting things that the new school year will bring. As such, I wanted to send out a request for families to complete the attached Volunteer “Pick 2” form. You can find the google form version here: https://forms.gle/nZnxgm6cR1RxQU1T6

Please take a few minutes in the coming days to fill out this form and let us know what activities you would like to participate in for the upcoming school year. There is a brief description of the events/volunteer opportunities. We ask each family to sign up for 2, but we welcome you to sign up for as many as you would like! If you have any questions please reach out to homeandschoolpresident@sfdslg.org.

8th Grade Fundraiser

The Road to Washington DC – 7th and 8th Grade Fundraiser

The St. Francis de Sales 7th and 8th grade classes are planning an exciting and educational trip to Washington, D.C. in May of 2026. To help make this trip possible for all students, we are asking for your support. Our students have put together some great online auction items. They really got creative, so take a look! Watch for more items being added throughout the month. The item that you bid on will go toward the student who donated that item. Any cash donations will be split between the whole class. We appreciate any and all support that we can get. Items go live for bidding on August 21.
