The end of the year is almost here and the Home & School board has decided to approach the Pick 2 a little bit differently. In order to be better prepared for next year, we are asking all returning families to please complete the Pick 2 now ( https://docs.google.com/forms/
At the start of each Home & School meeting, we read the school’s mission statement: “Saint Francis de Sales students receive a Christ-centered Catholic education driven by faith, while empowering self discovery and achievement in their spiritual, emotional and intellectual abilities. Our community strives to develop Disciples of Christ while preserving our proud legacy.”
It is easy to read that and understand the expectations that the school staff and our kids strive to meet every day, but the expectations for us, the parents and guardians, are maybe less clear.
When you looked at schools for your child, you made a choice to send them to St Francis de Sales – it was a choice that likely came with some expense that a local public school wouldn’t have carried, whether that is the cost of tuition or the time to provide transportation to and from school because you reside outside of Lake Geneva.
But our involvement doesn’t end when we get the kids to the door. An SFdS parent helps their child with homework and projects when asked (and sometimes when not asked). An SFdS parent responds to emails from teachers and room parents looking for project supplies or field trip chaperones. An SFdS parent ALWAYS reads Traci’s Tuesday newsletter. And that isn’t to say that no ball is ever dropped – but an SFdS parent tries with the best of intentions, because that is what we ask of our kids. With that in mind, please consider what would be the best use of your time, talent, and treasure in supporting the various activities that Home & School helps provide our children. And if you aren’t sure what school events need the support of the parents to be successful, read through the entire pick 2 list – without our collective support, most of those events go away. But please remember that these aren’t just events that provide a fun time for your kids – they also build the unique community we enjoy at St Francis. A community where older kids are friends with younger kids, where you can get to know all of your children’s classmates, and you can find community with the other parents.
