Faith with a Face —Emily DeBaere

emily-debaere1Emily has a birthday coming up.  It’s a big one…she’ll be 100 years old!   An artist all of her life, Emily has donated 2 paintings that she created to our Parish Festival Silent Auction happening this weekend. She has dabbled in acrylics as well as water color and has been a member of the Geneva Lake Art Association.   A parishioner at St. Francis de Sales for 15 years, she loves the music at our church….”It’s so alive!”

Emily drives her own car and loves to play bridge and pinochle twice a week.  She stills bowls a game of 140 (although she admits to having to use a lighter ball than she used to!).  Every day she rides her stationary bike for 20 minutes.  “I might be having a problem with my knee, but after I ride my bike it actually feels better!”. Her career included being a secretary and then later a real estate agent at Keefe for 25 years (she retired when she was 75). She is very grateful for her sons and daughter (and their spouses) who help her out.

What’s her secret?  “Keep interested in your surroundings and other people.  Think about others—not just yourself—and be a friend.  God has blessed me!”  Thank you, Emily for your generosity and your spunk!  You are an inspiration!

You can see Emily’s works of art (and many other wonderful auction items) this weekend at the Parish Festival  along with great food, music, raffles, games and more. We hope to see you there!
