Lorraine was nominated for this volunteer spotlight series by one of her peers who felt she is well deserving of recognition for all that she does for St. Francis de Sales Parish and beyond.
Moving here full time in 1998 from Northbrook, Illinois, Lorraine has worked as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, volunteered as a server/food maker at funeral luncheons, and oversees Adoration. Recently plagued by back issues, it’s hard for her to do some of the physical things that she used to do, so she has adjusted! She now makes phone calls to all of the funeral luncheon volunteers to let them know that a funeral luncheon is coming up (usually there is just a few days’ notice) to help organize who will bring food and who will serve. She continues to oversee Adoration for an hour every Tuesday. And, she makes rosaries.
Makes rosaries? ? That’s right; she orders the beads and materials from a religious goods company and crafts rosaries for the sick. Her sister, who lives in Brookfield, Connecticut, visits people in hospitals and has the rosaries on hand should they decide they want one. “They find this very comforting,” said Lorraine. What a wonderful ministry to help people find solace in God! Pictured here is an example of a rosary that she’s working on now.
What is the best thing about St. Francis de Sales? “The people. Father Jim, Father Tom, all of the people that volunteer with me, all of the people that I call. They are all so nice and always willing to help”.
Thank you Lorraine for all that you do, and for being an example to others of how to be flexible and do what you are able to do! You are very much appreciated!
