“ASK CAROLE.” These words are frequently heard in the halls of our parish. Whispered in church, spoken in the office, shouted in the kitchen! Carole, you see, is Carole Nevin. Not only has she been a member of St. Francis de Sales for more than 50 years doing almost every possible volunteer job, but she’s also usually in charge. Need to know how many our coffee makers serve? She can tell you. How to transfer a phone call or buy a Mass card? She’ll show you. How many workers does it take to run a funeral luncheon? She has a system. What kind of snacks to order for the Bingo concession? She has a plan. Can’t find something in the sacristy? Chances are, she knows where it is. The list is impressive. She volunteers in the office to answer the phones and keep things running when Judie is away. She is the coordinator for our Human Concerns committee, organizing activities in the nursing homes, spearheading food drives for the food pantry, doing the coat drive, bringing meals to the homeless shelter and working with the group to help people in our community who are in need. She is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and fills in when needed as a Greeter at Mass. She brings communion to the homebound and prays with them. She cleans the church and organizes the kitchen. She volunteers at Bingo in the concessions. She is a “regular” on Monday morning as a volunteer counting contributions. She was a regent, vice regent, and recording secretary for the Catholic Daughters. She schedules the groups for the soup supper for stations and for the monthly hospitality Sundays. She has run the kitchen volunteers for various events including Irish Fest, Italian Night, the Fall Festival and many others over the years. Could there possibly be more? Yes, every Wednesday afternoon she volunteers in the second-grade classroom at Central Denison school. For many years the director of a day care operation, Carole is first and foremost a mom and grandma, and very proud of her family. People are happy to work with Carole as she always has a twinkle in her eye along with a funny story to tell. Thank you, Carole, for all that you do. You are a blessing and so very appreciated by all of us at St. Francis de Sales!
