Why Choose St. Francis de Sales Parish School?
St. Francis de Sales Parish School parent Julie Sassano, along with her husband Philip, and School Alum Jordan Dunn, are the coaches of our Boys’ “B” Squad Basketball team. Julie emailed the following message to the parents of her players and to the school after her team’s first basketball game on November 27th.
It is not possible for Philip, Jordan and me to be more proud of the boys and what they did tonight. Yes – they won their first game but what I saw tonight BEFORE the game made me realize what a special place St. Francis de Sales School truly is and just how special these amazing boys are to me.
Jordan and I were strategizing a bit when out of the corner of our eyes, we saw the boys huddling together at the far end of the basketball court. When we walked over to see what sort of “game-time cheer” they were coming up with we stopped in our tracks. The boys were huddled together and Eli Syverson was asked to lead the boys in a prayer. He started the prayer with “Thank you God for letting me be a part of this team”…. and they all concluded with the sign of the cross before hitting the floor for some layups.
Needless to say, I excused myself to go have a good cry in the restroom and I thought to myself – YES – THIS IS WHY WE ARE HERE AT ST. FRANCIS DE SALES SCHOOL!!
This is going to be a very special season. These boys are maturing and growing up, not only taller, smarter and stronger but more importantly, growing in their faith every day. Thank you for letting me, Philip, and Jordan coach your sons this season.
The prayer that Eli led the team in that night is as follows:
Thank you for letting us be able to play basketball here tonight. Thank you that I could be a part of this team. Help us to be good sports if we win or lose. Also, help us to glorify you in all that we do. Finally, help us to play super good and WIN! In the name of the Father, Son & the Holy Spirit. Amen.
